Born and raised in a small Minneapolis suburb with an adolescence spent in Tokyo, Meera brings her inquisitive nature and a long-standing passion for learning to her work at VMG.
In my preschool report card, my teachers wrote that I was a 5 out of 5 on the energy scale, and they’d prefer kids to be at a 3. I was insatiably curious with a little bit of impatience. In other words, my parents were never bored!
My parents were the perfect yin and yang: my dad was an engineer with high expectations and a belief that we were capable of whatever we set our minds to, and my mom was a classical musician who taught us EQ and gave me a sense of optimism that shapes me to this day.
I was insatiably curious and a ball of energy, with a little bit of impatience. In other words, my parents were never bored! In my preschool report card, my teachers wrote that I was a 5 out of 5 on the energy scale, and they’d prefer kids to be at a 3. Thankfully, my mom ignored the advice and told me my motor was my superpower.
I have a younger sister and brother, and my family is extremely close-knit. My parents were the perfect yin and yang: my dad is an engineer, and my mom’s a classical musician. He was born Sikh and she is Irish Catholic, so each Sunday we would trade off between attending Gurdwara and Church.
My dad had extremely high expectations, rooted in the idea that we were capable of whatever we set our minds to. My mom taught us EQ and a sense of optimism that shapes how I approach the world today. But they both put emphasis on the value of the extended family unit: my dad comes from a high-octane Punjabi family and my mom is the youngest of six kids.
For sure! Especially holidays, which were always a big production, full of love and tradition.
The best mornings start slow, with coffee and oatmeal, some quiet reading time, and then a long run along the water — either Ocean Beach or the Embarcadero. In the afternoon, my partner Kirit and I head up to Sonoma with some friends for some sun and a crisp glass of Chardonnay. We return at sundown, just in time to order some sushi and fall asleep on the couch to our favorite sitcom.
I’m most engaged in my work when I find that missing puzzle piece that helps everything come together. I love learning from and supporting different founders who are creating thousands of “ah-ha” moments, trying to solve some of the toughest challenges that consumer companies face.
Oh yeah! With this work, I feel like I’m having a constant epiphany.
