Growing up within French and Italian cultures made me a curious person who likes to consider multiple perspectives.

A numbers person who is also a people person, Alona brings her natural empathy and all-in energy to her work with the finance team.

CONTEXT IS KING

Culture dictates so much of an individual’s life and chosen path. I’ve learned to examine what norms might determine any given behavior, and to use critical thinking to analyze what aspects of culture are really serving one’s best interests.

RULES TO LIVE BY

If it can be done in a moment, do it immediately. If it’s something involved or daunting, break it into steps and chip away at it. My work style is 100% on and then 100% off.

Vousparlez français, n’est pas? When did you learn the language?

Oui, je parle francais, et Italien aussi! I am a first-generation American  —  my mom is French and my father was Italian. I spent summers in both countries growing up, and I have dual citizenship. I speak both languages conversationally and am teaching them to my daughter as well.

Amazing! What else did you learn from your family when you were growing up?

I was raised by a single mom in the suburbs, but was immersed in both French and Italian culture, which I’m so grateful for. I learned that culture dictates so much of an individual’s life and chosen path. It taught me to examine what norms might determine any given behavior, and to use critical thinking to analyze what aspects of culture are really serving one’s best interests. In the end it made me a curious person who likes to consider multiple approaches or perspectives.

Jumping to the present…what’s the last book you read?

I’m always reading several books at once and visit the library often. I have a Kindle, but there’s something immediately relaxing about settling in and holding a physical book. I always keep short story compilations around because sometimes I want a mini journey that I can actually complete in one sitting. I am also a fan of historical fiction, magic realism, science fiction, inspiring biographies and psychology books. Really, my nightstand has about six books on it at any given moment.

Sounds like you’re a great multi-tasker. How would you describe your work style?

If it can be done in a moment, do it immediately. If it’s something involved or daunting, break it into steps and chip away at it. My work style is 100% on and then 100% off.
