Laugh often and save room for dessert

My family and mentors taught me to work hard, laugh often, save room for dessert, and that the value of a team is often greater than the sum of its parts.

BABY SISTER

[Growing up, I was] independent, sporty, adventurous, curious, and most definitely sassy. As the youngest of three girls, I wanted to be heard and make people laugh.

MIND-BODY CONNECTION

In college, I studied Neuroscience and played Division 1 field hockey. My classes taught me the intricacies of learning, sleep, and physiology, which I applied to my life as a college athlete.

IT'S NOT WORK, IT'S LIFE

Working with consumer brands lets what I do and learn be part of how I live. Discovering the best sour candy? That’s my passion and my job.

Tell us what kind of kid you were.

Independent, sporty, adventurous, curious, and most definitely sassy. As the youngest of three girls, I wanted to be heard and make people laugh.

What early lessons did you learn that still serve you today?

Almost too many to count! A strong community of family and mentors taught me to work hard and be resilient, to laugh often and save room for dessert, and that the value of a team is often greater than the sum of its parts.

Talk a bit more about this community that nurtured you.

I grew up on the campus of a boarding school surrounded by thoughtful educators, loyal friends, passionate students, and fierce athletes. These people shot lacrosse balls with me after team practices, helped me pick out books in the library, waded through the murky pond to pick up rocks with me, and ultimately, showed me the power of community.

Sounds like you were busy! What kept you busy as you got older?

As I move through phases of life, I seek to establish a similar sense of place that I had as a child. In college, I studied Neuroscience and played Division 1 field hockey. My classes taught me the intricacies of learning, sleep, and physiology, which I applied to my life as a college athlete.

How does this connect to your work today with brands?

Consumption is part of every person’s every day. Brands create community by providing a common language of self-expression. Working with consumer brands lets what I do and learn be part of how I live. Discovering the best sour candy? That’s my passion and my job.

And the VMG culture supports your values?

VMG’s culture has always inspired and attracted me. We prioritize people and take time to build strong, diverse teams both within VMG and at portfolio companies. VMG is committed to unwavering partnership and creative teamwork, understanding that teams are stronger than individuals.

You have mentioned dessert twice in this short interview, guess we can say you have a sweet tooth?

Is it that obvious? I have my grandfather to thank for that!

The youngest of 3 sisters, a former Division 1 field hockey player, and now part of the squad at VMG—Eliza knows firsthand the importance of teamwork.
